No matter how laid back your boss is, or how flexible your timings are, there are some things that you just cannot do at work.
To avoid getting into any tricky situations at work avoid these five office blunders:

Watch out
You need to be careful of what you say about your previous organization. Don't keep saying how good your previous work place was. This is as bad as telling your current boyfriend that you and your ex-boyfriend were soul mates.
Praising your earlier workplace not only displays a lack of loyalty to your current organisation, but it will also make you look silly. If you loved your old job so much, why did you leave it?

No career planning

Sure, everyone's got their life chalked out, but it's best to keep your plan under wraps. No one in office will appreciate it and who knows, your backstabbing colleague may even apply for the post you wanted!

No blame game

Playing the blame game is dishonest, childish and likely to get you into serious trouble. It's hard to accept a mistake but it's even worse to lie about it.

In addition to this, your lying won't go down too well with colleagues. You will just end up finding yourself increasingly alone at lunch time.

Don't gossip

As much as you are tempted to spread the latest bit of juicy gossip about your boss, it's best to maintain a dignified silence. It's unethical and unprofessional. You don't want to be labeled a big mouth.

Take rest

Sure, you want to look like a martyr but the admiration your boss and co-workers will have for you won't last long. The inevitable coughing, sneezing, hacking and sniffling coming from you will get on their nerves.

And, when germs are involved, they probably won't believe in 'sharing is caring'.

If you follow these simple tips at work you'll probably make a good impression and climb up the corporate ladder faster than you expected to.

(2478 / 1690 visits)Vaijayanta Chattorajhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088462847056511662noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-56473097494130341292009-02-12T01:32:00.000-08:002009-02-12T01:35:21.440-08:00SRI HANUMAN by SRI SWAMI SIVANANDA
Sri Hanuman was born of Anjani from Pavana, the wind-god. He was named Hanuman after the name of the city of Hanumpur over which his maternal uncle Parti Surya ruled. Hanuman's body was hard as a stone. So Anjani named him Vajranga. He is also known by the names "Mahavir" or mightiest hero (because he exhibited several heroic feats), Balibima and Maruti.

The world has not yet seen and will not see in future also a mighty hero like Sri Hanuman. During his life he worked wonders and exhibited superhuman feats of strength and valour. He has left behind him a name which, as long as the world lasts, will continue wielding a great influence over the minds of millions of people.

He is one of the seven Chiranjivis. He was the only learned scholar who knew the nine Vyakaranas. He learnt the Sastras from the sun-god. He was the wisest of the wise, strongest of the strong and bravest of the brave. He was the Sakti of Rudra. He who meditates on him and repeats his name attains power, strength, glory, prosperity and success in life. He is worshipped in all parts of India, particularly in Maharashtra.

He was born at the most auspicious hour of the morning of the 8th of the Lunar month, Chaitra, at 4 o'clock on the most blessed day, Tuesday.

He had the power to assume any form he liked; to swell his body to an enormous extent and to reduce it to the length of a thumb. His strength was superhuman. He was the terror of Rakshasas. He was well versed in the four Vedas and other sacred books. His valour, wisdom, knowledge of the scriptures and superhuman strength attracted everybody who came near him. He had extraordinary skill in warfare.

He was the chosen messenger, warrior and servant of Sri Rama. He was the votary and devotee of Lord Rama. Rama was his all in all. He lived to serve Rama. He lived in Rama. He lived for Rama. He was a minister and intimate friend of Sugriva.

From his very birth he exhibited extraordinary physical strength and worked many miracles.

When he was a child he put the sun into his mouth. All the gods were very much troubled. They came with folded hands to the child and humbly entreated him to release the sun. The child set free the sun at their request.

Hanuman saw Sri Rama for the first time in Kishkindha. Sri Rama and Lakshmana came there in the course of their search of Sita whom Ravana had carried away.

A Rishi pronounced a curse on Hanuman for his wrong action, that he would remain unconscious of his great strength and prowess till he met Sri Rama and served him with devotion. As soon as Hanuman beheld Sri Rama he became conscious of his strength and power.

In Lanka, Hanuman exhibited his immense strength and extraordinary powers. He destroyed the beautiful grove which was a pleasure resort of Ravana. He uprooted many trees and killed many Rakshasas. Ravana was very much infuriated at this. He sent Jambumali to fight against Sri Hanuman who took the trunk of a tree and hurled it against Jambumali and killed him. Ravana sent his son Aksha to fight against Hanuman. He was also killed. Then he sent Indrajit. Hanuman threw a great tree upon Indrajit. Indrajit fell down senseless on the ground. After some time Indrajit recovered his consciousness. He threw the noose of Brahma on Hanuman. Hanuman allowed himself to be bound by the noose. He wanted to honour Brahma. Indrajit ordered the Rakshasas to carry the monkey to his father's court. Even a hundred Rakshasas were not able to lift Hanuman.

Hanuman made himself as light as possible. The Rakshasas then lifted him up. When they placed him over their shoulders he suddenly became heavy and crushed them to death. Then Hanuman asked the Rakshasas to remove the rope. They removed the rope and Hanuman proceeded to the council hall of Ravana.

Ravana said, "O mischievous monkey, what will you say in your defence? I will put you to death." Hanuman laughed and said, "O wicked Ravana, give back Sita to Lord Rama and ask his pardon; otherwise you will be ruined and the whole of Lanka will be destroyed." These words of Hanuman made Ravana very furious. He asked the Rakshasas to cut off the head of Hanuman.

Vibhishana intervened and said, "O brother, it is not lawful and righteous to kill a messenger. You can inflict some punishment only."

Ravana consented. He wanted to deprive Hanuman of his tail and make him ugly. He ordered the Rakshasas to wrap Hanuman's tail with cloths soaked in oil and ghee. Hanuman extended his tail to such length and size that all the cloths in Lanka would not cover it. Then he reduced his tail of his own accord. The Rakshasas wrapped the tail with cloths soaked in oil and ghee and lighted the cloths. Hanuman expanded his body to an enormous size and began to jump from place to place. The whole of Lanka caught on fire. All the palatial buildings were burnt down to ashes.

Hanuman then jumped into the sea in order to cool and refresh himself. A drop of his perspiration fell into the mouth of a great fish which gave birth to a mighty hero named Makara Dhvaja. Makara Dhvaja is considered the son of Hanuman. Thereupon Hanuman went to the Asoka grove and told Sita all that he had done.

Then he crossed the sea through the air and came to the place where his army was placed. He told them all that had happened. Thereupon they all marched quickly to carry the good news to Sri Rama and Sugriva. They reached the city of Kishkindha. Hanuman gave Sita's ring to Lord Rama. Sri Rama rejoiced heartily. He praised Hanuman and embraced him saying, "O mighty hero I cannot repay your debt."

When all the brothers and sons of Ravana were killed, Ravana sent for his brother Ahi Ravana who was the king of the nether world. Ahi Ravana came to Lanka. Ravana asked his help to fight against Sri Rama and Lakshmana.

Ahi Ravana consented to help his brother. At the dead of night he assumed the form of Vibhishana, the brother of Ravana and an ally and devotee of Sri Rama. He reached the place where Rama and Lakshmana were sleeping. Hanuman was keeping watch. He thought that it was Vibhishana who was coming. Therefore he allowed him to enter the camp. Ahi Ravana quietly took the two brothers upon his shoulders and repaired to his kingdom.

When the day dawned, Hanuman found out that Sri Rama and Lakshmana were missing. He found out that Ahi Ravana had carried them to his kingdom. At once he proceeded to the nether world and received information that Ahi Ravana had made arrangements to kill the two brothers in sacrifice. Hanuman assumed a tiny form, entered the temple and sat over the image of the goddess. The image went down into the earth. Hanuman took her seat. When Ahi Ravana was about to sacrifice the two brothers, Hanuman appeared in his own form and killed him. He installed Makara Dhvaja, his own son on the throne, took the brothers on his shoulders and brought them to Lanka.

Hanuman killed many heroes in the great war. Dhumar, Vajro, Roshat, Ankhan and several other great warriors were killed by him.

When the great war was over, Vibhishana was installed on the throne of Lanka. The time of banishment was about to be over. Sri Rama, Lakshmana, Sita and Sri Hanuman sat in the Pushpaka Vimana or aeroplane and reached Ayodhya in time.

The coronation ceremony of Lord Rama was celebrated with great eclat and pomp. Sita gave Hanuman a necklace of pearls of rare quality. Hanuman received it with great respect and began to break the pearls with his teeth. Sita and other ministers who were sitting in the council hall were quite astonished at this queer act of Hanuman.

Sita asked Hanuman, "O mighty hero, what are you doing? Why do you break the pearls?" Sri Hanuman said, "O venerable mother, it is the most valuable necklace indeed as it has come to me through thy holy hand. But I want to find out whether any of the pearls contain my beloved Lord Rama. I do not keep a thing devoid of him. I do not find him in any of the pearls." Sita asked, "Tell me whether you keep Lord Rama within you." Sri Hanuman immediately tore open his heart and showed it to Sri Rama, Sita and others. They all found Lord Rama accompanied by Sita in the heart of Sri Hanuman.

Lord Rama rejoiced heartily. He came down the throne and embraced Hanuman and blessed him. Sri Hanuman passed the rest of his life in the company of the Lord.

When Sri Rama ascended to his supreme abode, Sri Hanuman also wished to follow him. But the Lord asked him to remain in this world as his representative and attend all the assemblies of men where discourses on his deeds were held and heard, and help his devotees in cultivating devotion.

He is a Chiranjeevi. He is everywhere. He who has eyes and devotion beholds him and receives his blessing.

Hanuman ranks first amongst the heroes of the world. His heroic deeds, wonderful exploits and marvellous feats of strength and bravery cannot be adequately described. His sense of duty was extremely laudable. He had great skill in all military tactics and methods of warfare. His crossing the sea of thirty miles in one leap and lifting the crest of a mountain in the palm of the hand, his carrying of the brothers on his shoulders from the nether world to Lanka are all astounding, superhuman feats which baffle human description.

He conquered innumerable difficulties which cropped up in his way through his courage, patience and undaunted spirit. He made untiring search to find Sita. At the time of danger he exhibited marvellous courage and presence of mind. He was steady and firm in his actions. He was always successful in his attempts. Failure was not known to him. He gave up his life in the service of the Lord. He had not a tinge of selfishness in his actions. All his actions were offerings unto Lord Rama. No one reached the peak in Dasya Bhava like Sri Hanuman. He was a rare jewel among devotees, the supreme head among Pundits, the king among celibates and the commander among heroes and warriors.

O mighty Hanuman, untiring and devoted Sevak of Sri Rama, joy of Anjana, king of Brahmacharins, show us the secrets of Brahmacharya and the ways to attain purity in thought, word and deed. May India have such heroes and Brahmacharins ever more!

Where Hanuman is, there are Sri Rama and Sri Sita and wherever Sri Rama and Sri Sita are praised and their deeds recited, there Hanuman is.

Glory to Hanuman, the blessed devotee of Lord Rama. Glory, glory to Sri Anjaneya, the mighty hero, undaunted warrior and learned Brahmacharin, the like of whom the world has not yet seen and will not see in time to come.

May his blessings be upon you all. Let us sing his glory now...

(2461 / 1680 visits)
Vaijayanta Chattorajhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088462847056511662noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-39751365818260340902008-04-27T22:54:00.000-07:002008-04-27T22:58:37.879-07:00Manage your TimeFollowing Tips will help you in Understanding and Analysing Time: -

1. Incidentally, his roots are at Royal family of Tripura.

2) His guru Krishna Chandra Dey was , a blind singer, was also the uncle of Manna Dey.

3) Dada's first attempt in films was as an actor-singer for the film Yahudi Ki Ladki where he was replaced at the last moment by another stalwart of yesteryears Pahadi Sanyal.

4) Dada came to Bombay in 1941, not as a composer but in the capacity of a playback singer. The first solo he sang was for a film Taj Mahal. The composer was Madhavlal Master.

5) Disillusioned with Bollywood, Dada once left Bombay in 1951, only to return back after some time. Manna Dey completed the score of Mashaal, which Dada had left incomplete.

6) Dada had a unique way of judging the vocal condition of singers. Very early in the morning after his morning walk he used to call them from his 'Jet Bungalow', and Listen to the singers' voice over the phone.

7) One day when Dada was in the way of routine morning walk, he saw a person was saying that "He is the father of Rahul Dev Burman by pointing him. As Dada returned home he hugged Pancham. this was the moment in his life bigger than his all successful films.

8) During recordings Dada used to control all aspects of recording, ie. Orchestral Architecture and Oral Tuning of singers. Once it happened that an extra violinist was playing in the orchestra. Dada instantly sought to know through recordist's mike that why that unwanted violinist was there. "But dada, he has already come and and we have to pay him." reply came. "Then pay him and let him go! I want one, and only one violin in this song." Dada said.

9) Jaidev Verma, Dada's assistants was a sarod player cum guitarist who achieved a generous amount of success as the composer of films like Hum Dono, Prem Parvat and Kinare Kinare.

10) Though the last release was Tyaag, the last song dada had composed from his hospital bed was Badi sooni sooni hai for film Mili, after 2 days of this song recording dada went in comma, which led him to attained his heavenly bliss.

11) C. Ramachandra on request by the studio owner, partially arranged the music for "Shikari" Dada's first film as a composer in Bombay, With a condition that his name should not appear on the record.

12) He used to go to the The Bombay Powai Lake for fishing on holidays and often used to spend the entire day fishing, often without much success.

13) There'd be good-natured bantering between them. "Baba," Pancham would pout, "you don't give me enough pocket money." And Dada would laugh back, "Oi Pancham, when are you going to contribute to the kitchen expenses?"

14) Whenever the son would try to shuffle out quietly from the music room, Dada would say, "Jao jao, I know you want to smoke a cigarette."

15) When Pancham-da and Asha-ji planned to get married, they conveyed their concerns to Dada. Sitting next to Dada, Asha-ji waiting for his words, after a long silence he told that "Pancham is our only son, a divine gift God blessed us after a lot of prayers. Now he is in your hands with a hope that both you will devote to music and give new dimensions".

16) When Dada hummed the tune for "Yeh raat yeh chandi phir kahan" (Jaal), Sahir laughed. When Dada suggested that he would use Hemant Kumar's vocals for this number, Sahir was in raptures. Dada stuck on to his choice and the song was a very big hit.

16) In "Chhod do aanchal, zamana kya kahega". Asha Bhonsle responded with "Aah", Dada of course asked her to begin the song with that "Aah" to react in a manner as if somebody was pulling her saree.

17) Lata-ji did not sing for Dada for a stretch of five years. When she did come back, it was with a vengeance and her first number with Dada was a remarkable piece in musical artistry was "Jogi jab se tu aaya mere dwaare" (Bandini).

18) For Pancham-da's composition "Chunri sambhaal gori." Dada give the final touch by simply introducing an exclamation 'Aha' between the lines of the mukhda when sung in refrain.

20) Danny Danzogppa made a moderate debut as a playback singer in the duet 'Mera naam aao, mere paas aao' with Asha for the film "Yeh Gulistan Hamara", his part of the song was featured on Johnny Walker.

21) "Kaahe ko roye, Chahe jo hoye" sung by Dada (Hindi) was retained in both the Hindi and the Bangla (dubbed) version of the film "Aradhana".

22) During the one-year coma preceding his death Dada rarely reacted to any external stimuli, When Panchamda gave him the news that East Bengal had drubbed Mohan Bagan 5-0 in the IFA Shield Final. He did smile, faintly, once.

23) For his compositions he used to take inspiration from real life events and feelings. he used to roam aound on the roads. It's very rare that sat down with a harmonium to compose music. like for "Jaayen to jaayen kahan" he might have got lost, for "Ye raat ye chaandani phir kahaan" might be composed at looking through a window on a moonlit night, Looking far away at nothing in particular, as if looking for some lost treasure, he gave us the gems, "Tum na jaane kis jahan mein kho gaye".

23) He was a great innovator when it came to experimenting with instruments in a composition and well known for his last minute improvisations.

24) The trend in the industry where they believed in the principle of one playback singer for one hero in one film, for them, it was Mukesh for Raj Kapoor, Kishor Kumar for Rajesh Khanna, Mohd.Rafi for the irrepressible Shammi Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. Dada was differ from them. Repeatedly, he used more than one voice for the same artiste in the same film. Dada chose the playback singer depending on Mood and the situation where his song would be used in the film and not by which voice matched the actor's voice most. Thus, Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh sung for Amitabh in Abhiman and no one in the audience could noticed the switch while watching the movie. Similarly Rafi, Kishore and Manna Dey offered their voices for Dev Anand in Manzil. On Raj Kapoor in the film Pyaar Dada first experiment with the voice of Kishore Kumar. In the meanwhile, he was experimenting with the voice of Mukesh on Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar. In "Sagina" Kishor Kumar's voice used for Dilip Kumar. Surprisingly he has used Manna Dey on Kishore Kumar in "Naughty Boy".

Source: - http://www.sdburman.com/trivia.html

Visitors till now: - 1879 Hits & 1242 Visitors
Vaijayanta Chattorajhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13088462847056511662noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-92158236561483697872007-12-16T04:39:00.000-08:002007-12-16T05:39:16.261-08:00Why was Sourav out of the team?

Sourav Ganguly, our very own DADA of Indian Cricket Team, was out of the Indian Team for quite some time. But he made a Grand comeback to the team and on the last test against Pakistan at Bangalore he was the only player to score 239 and 91 in two consecutive innings. He also completed a Maiden Test Century at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Thus he quenched the Man of the Series Award, in the Tri-Test-Series (Man of the Match and four wickets) against Pakistan. He also crossed the 1000 run mark for the Year 2007. The next Test at MCG, is going to be the 100th Test of his career. Is this isn’t a grand comeback then what is it?

The topic of this post “Why Sourav was out of the team?” is more of a light topic without any intention to hurt the sentiments of any player and their fans.

Sourav made Dravid the wicket keeper, when Sourav was the southpaw and Dravid had to do the daunting task behind the wickets without loss of concentration even for a single moment, during the game. So Dravid made a vow to the Wicket God that “Mujhe Captain bana dijiye, isko (pointing at Sourav) to main sabse pehle team se bahar karunga kyuki mujhe har waqt ball ko dekhna padhta hain, jab meri teammates ball kam, gallery pe baithe hue ladkiyon ko zaada dekhta hain”.

The Wicket God, pleased with Dravid (who by then forgot that there was an entity called girls in this universe) listened to his prayers. Thus Sourav was made to perform miserably during the game, by magical powers of Wicket God and soon he was out of the team by two angels of Wicket God in the form of Kiran More and Greg Chappell. Thus Dravid let out a sigh of relief but that too was short lived when Sourav made a Grand comeback to the Team, by his 3Ds Theory. (discipline, dedication and determination) This shows that even today there is no shortcut to success and no alternative of hard work, which always pays.

All the BEST to our DADA for his future ventures, be it inside or outside the hundred yards. No one, not even the police has the right to take anyones life. These people were innocent people who were fighting for their lands. It is their legal right to fight for their lands which is being confiscated by the Government.

Think it in this way. Say you are living in your home since your birth and your father is living there since his birth and about 100 years ago your grandfather had bought the land. So you have mentally attached to your home and your land as your grandfather, your father had spent their whole life in building the house and developing the field so that you can live there in peace with your family.

But one day what do you see? You see that the Governement is going to shatter your grandfather's and your father's dreams and confiscate your land to make it a Chemical Hub and that too by firing the women and children protestors. Its a matter of shame in a democracy. No one would like to part away from their ancestral property, not even the people who run the Government.

If the government has to creat Special Economic Zones (SEZs) they should go for barren lands and areas where there are least productivity. Killing innocent people just for the sake of industrialization is not the right way of doing it. (It might be the LEFT way). No, this is not done.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1164624051622933082006-11-27T01:44:00.000-08:002008-01-20T03:30:39.980-08:00PRESENT in the PASTAbout 100 years ago, Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore in his poems and novels had written incidents that are occuring around us today. Believe it or not, it is a true fact.

You must have read RAJARSHI by Rabindranath Tagore in the Bengali syllabus of ISC Exams. If not, then you must have read the poem BISHARJAN by Rabindranath Tagore. If you still havent, let me summarise the whole story to you.

The whole story goes on like this: -

Gobindamanikya a great king of a small kingdom in the state of Tripura was a great human being. He was loved and respected by all in his kingdom. He had a head priest cum minister in his court called Raghupati. He used to provide all wise decisions to the king. There was a mandir in his kingdom called Tripureshwari Mandir. Raghupati was the head priest in this mandir. People in the kindom, being very religious minded, respected and feared Raghupati more than they did to Gobindamanikya.

One night Gobindamanikya had a dream that sacrifice of animals in the mandir needs to be stopped as Goddess Kali was tired of the blood stains that flowed through the stairs of the mandir. He ordered this to the people in his kingdom.

But Raghupati being the head priest of the mandir did not like the decision and he maliciously turned the people of the kingdom against Gobindamanikya (by emotionally blackmailing them in the name of religion). He even wanted Gobindamanikya to step down from the throne and wanted the step brother of the king, who was called Nakshatrarai to be the next king. So he played politics against the king in his own kingdom and made Nakshatrarai violent against Gobindamanikya. Gobindamanikya loved his step brother,Nakshartarai more than himself and seeing Nakshartarai so much eager to sit in the throne, offered him the throne and prepared to go to exile.

Thus Raghupati was successsful in dethroning Gobindamanikya and in his place made Nakshartarai the king, who obeyed Raghupati in every action he did as a king. Thus Raghupati was the invisible king who again started the custom of animal sacrifice in the kingdom.

There was more to this story about how Gobindamanikya got back his throne by the help of another priest of his kingdom called Billonthakur. But I will not go to that area and would like to show my readers that in todays world there are some cruel Raghupatis who to fulfil their own desires and needs and hunger for power dethrones the Gobindamanikyas of today.

The same thing has occured to Indian Cricket Scenario.

Sourav Ganguly (like Gobindamanikya) was the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team and was leading the team to many victories, but soon the team coach was changed from John Wright to Greg Chappell. Greg Chappell (like Raghupati) is a cruel man and had some clashes with Ganguly and soon by misusing his power dethroned Ganguly from the throne of Captain of the Indian Cricket Team and even put him outside the team. Chappell (again like Raghupati) played such dirty politics against Ganguly that its almost two years and Ganguly who had more than 10,000 runs in first class cricket and more than 4000 runs in Test Cricket, and he also being an all rounder, was never allowed to play a single match for India after Chappell came to power, even though he was in great form.

Chappell even made Dravid (like Nakshatrarai) the captain whodid and even does everything that Chappell commands him. Initially Ganguly and Dravid had great frienship but it was broken by Chappell and his policies. Now Chappell shares a great rapport with Dravid and Dravid as he tasted power is prepared to act against Ganguly and do anything that Chappell commands him.

Im sure this situation will soon disappear and soon there will be a Billonthakur who would come to the rescue of our modern day Gobindamanikya. Thus Sourav Ganguly will again rule and I can see that the day is not so far.

What do you say? Long live Sourav. Long live Kabiguru.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1160924715934447042006-10-15T07:29:00.000-07:002008-01-20T03:37:15.762-08:00Light Rail Transit (LRT) SystemDo you know what a Light Rail Transit is? A Light Rail Transit is an overhead Tram Car. We know that OUR Kolkata is very famous for the tram car. But trams are generally very heavy and consumes a lot of space on the road. They are even very slow. A LRT is a light weight tram car, that moves quite faster and consumes no space on the road, they being overhead. They move on special elevated tracks placed on a flyover like structure from the source to the destination.

Kolkata is planning a Light Rail Transit System from Salt Lake (Karunamoyee) to Howrah Maidan. The idea is really good and praiseworthy. No doubt about it. Initially the Project was planned from Rajarhat (New Town) to Ramrajatala on the west of Kolkata that is Howrah. Later the Project had been shelved due to lack of funds. (I am not going to the political aspect of it). Even, the Project was thought to be an underground one like the Metro Railway that Kolkata has from Dum Dum to Tollygunge. But somehow it did not happen.
Now I would like to point out the route LRT would take to go from Salt Lake (Karunamoyee) to Howrah Maidan. Starting from Karunamoyee, it would take the road that starts from Karunamoyee to Netaji Park just adjacent to the FE block. Next it would take the road adjacent to HB and GD block that leads to the SaltLake Stadium beside Hyatt Regency Hotel. Next it would cross the Eastern Metropolitan Byepass and move towards Kadapara through the road near Swabhumi and 89 Cinemas. It would extend to Phoolbagan and then Rajabazar and take left towards Moulali though Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road. It would take B.B. Ganguly Street and straight go to Lalbazar and through the BBD Bagh, take Strand Road, and over the River Hugli(a tributary of the Great GANGA or THE GANGES), it would straight land up in Howrah Maidan near Howrah Station. Thus it would go parallel to Howrah Bridge(another pride of OUR Kolkata). That is it.

I am really excited about the project. If this Project is complete, millions of people would avail it, to go to their office and come back home everyday. Though, some buses, taxis and other public transports will suffer, still such a Project needs to be there in a Central Business District like proper Kolkata where millions of people come and go everyday. Even these people will be able to travel in comfort of Air Conditioner.

By looking at this grand project I would like our Respected State West Bengal Government to think of a such a LRT Project from Barasaat (in the northern fringes of the city) to either Sonarpur (on the south-eastern part of the city along the Eastern Metropolitan Byepass ) or till Joka (in the south-western part of the city through Byepass, Prince Anwar Shah Road, Alipore, Taratolla, till the road that leads to Joka through Behala. If posssible, we should go for both the Projects. It would definitely be a GRAND PROJECT but it would earn Revenue for the Governemnt in Billions of Rupees. I hope my CRY for a grand project for the future of OUR CITY KOLKATA would be HEARD.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1158132512412884942006-09-12T23:51:00.000-07:002008-01-20T03:48:26.758-08:00Sanat Kumar Chattoraj is no more with us.

"GOD'S FINGER TOUCHED HIM AND HE SLEPT"

My grandfather, Sri Sanat Kumar Chattoraj is no more with us. He left the world on 2.30 am on Sunday the 10th of September, 2006. He was almost 90 years old. He left back 2 sons, 5 daughters and his wife Smt. Nirupama Chattoraj. The elder son is my daddy. So I am his elder grandson.

He breathed his last at B. R. Singh Hospital, Sealdah, Kolkata at Intensive Care Unit, where he was under ventilation, 7 days before his demise. He also had a catheter fitted to his body and he was made to eat through Ryles tube for the past 1 month.

Before being shifted to B. R. Singh Hospital, he was undergoing treatment in a private nursing home for the last 20 days at Calcutta Heart Clinic& Hospital at Salt lake City, Kolkata near tank no 12.

In fact, he was not well for the last one year mainly due to ageing and he had a cerebral attack one year ago. After that, he lost the power of recognition. He used to talk to himself the whole day and whole night. He lost his short term memory but still had his long term memeory intact. Thus he used to go on speaking, what was in his mind, from the past.

3 months ago, one day suddenly his health deteriorated and he was admitted to the nursing home. There he was treated, but his health never got better. It became worse day by day. He was shifted to home 1 month later but again after some days he was taken to the nursing home.

In one word he suffered a lot in the last 2 years. At last he got rid from all the sufferings.

SOMETHING ABOUT MY GRANDFATHER (DADU)

Sri Sanat Kumar Chattoraj was born in an orthodox Brahmin family in a small village near Asansol in Samdi Colliery area in Burdwan district of West Bengal, in the year 1916 on 29th day of Bengali month "Baishakh".

His fathers name was Sri Kumudeshwar Chattoraj. Dadu also has an elder brother who is still living in Burnpur town with is wife. His name is Purna Chandra Chattoraj. He has no son of his own but he adopted a son called Nitish.

Dadu had BA Degree in Bengali and a dual MA in Bengali and Sanskrit. His name is found in the list of Pandits in the holy book of Hindus called "Panjika" or "Paanji" in Bengali. He was a learned man and a great philosopher.

He lost his father at the age of 3 and his elder brother was 7 at that time. His mother brought him up and dadu by his own carried out his studies at school. He did his schooling from Ethora High School, Ethora, a place 25 miles away from Samdi. Later he passed the School Final Examinations and did his Graduation from Burdwan University and his Post Graduation from Calcutta University.

His mother was very strict lady. Due to her strictness, dadu covered such a long way in his life. Later he joined as the Sanskrit Teacher in Deshbandhu Vidyalaya Boys School, Chittaranjan and after some years of tough life he was promoted to the post of the Principal in the same school.

He has a long list of successful students. Many are, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Managers, Teachers, and so on. This is something to be felt proud of.

He had a tough life in bringing up his 2 sons and 5 daughters. I personally Salute such a noble man. I really feel proud to call such noble man my Grandfather.

He used to tell me "WE ARE BORN TO LEAD OTHERS AND NOT TO BE LEAD". In the last few years before his demise, he used to recite few lines of a poetry of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.

It said in Bengali: -
"Udayer Pathe Suni Kaar Bani,
Bhoy Nai Ore Bhoy Nai,
Nish-shey-shey Pran,
Je Koribe Daan,
Khoy Nai Taar Khoy Nai".

"MAY GOD REST HIS SOUL IN PEACE UP THERE IN HEAVEN"

"DADU, WE ALL WILL MISS YOU, FOREVER".
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1157695106264869002006-09-07T22:34:00.000-07:002006-09-07T22:58:26.336-07:00Concertization of Tram TracksOne of the few developments that took place in Kolkata since Independence are the concretization of the tram tracks. It started in the year 2004 and is still going on phase wise. I am a strong supporter of concretization of the tram tracks.

Nirmal Chandra Street in Bowbazar, where the famous bazaar of Bowbazar and the sweet shop Bhimnag is situated, since Independence was the most neglected area. Not a single municipality board took initiative to maintain the road.

But in the month of August 2006, one fine day, the HRBC people suddenly started pulling out the tram tracks from Bowbazar more (junction) till the end of Hind Cinema and within seven days the concretization of tram tracks over there were completed.

Now this street looks no less than any fine street of Chicago or any other western city that has tram tracks in it. Now cars are plying through the street with zip zap and zoom motion.

At last the people of Bowbazar (Central Kolkata) are happy that the municipality has done something constructive for them. Now I am looking forward to the concretization of the tram tracks after the Pujas 2006, in Amherst Street and Bepin Behari Ganguly Street. (Bowbazar Street) where all the jewellery shops of Kolkata are situated.

I'll let you all know, how this has been done, after the work is completed.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1154348202254029172006-07-31T05:05:00.000-07:002006-07-31T14:36:44.310-07:00My Dream Girl

I have never seen anyone more SWEETER, CUTIER than this, in my life. Gayatri Joshi is the MOST GOOD LOOKING, INDIANISED WOMAN I have ever seen in my life. Every day while having my lunch or dinner, I need some or other chutney or pickle. They need to be sour and not sweet. I do not like sweet chutney or pickles. Usually from the markets, I buy them in grams every week to satisfy my taste.

Actually, I do not like the factory made pickles, which are sold in sealed bottles with huge brand names on their side. I am not naming those brands but these pickles loose their taste once their bottle seals are opened. They become much more salty. I hat them like anything.

I really loved the sour pickles that are made by grandmas and aunties in their houses. They are delicious. I also love the pickles, which are sold loose in the markets in fixed weights. You can try them out and the factory made ones and let me which one taste better.

At times when I don’t have these pickles /chutneys at my home stock, then I myself prepare one of the 3 tasty solo-salads that I have mentioned below. One needs to be a lover of chilli salads to try my 3 types of solo salads.

I’m calling them solo-salads for some obvious reasons. Normally salads are made of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions mixed together with lemon juices. They are good in taste but I have noticed that when cucumber comes in contact with onion, the whole preparation becomes bitter in taste.

So I have invented 3 types of solo-salads.

1st Type of Solo Salad. –Tomato-Chilli Sauce.

Requirements:-
1) 1 Tomato
2) 1 Chilli
3) ¼ tablespoon of salt

How to Prepare:-

Take a tomato. Crush it inside a porcelain bowl and make a paste out of it by your hand. Add the ¼ the tablespoon of salt to it. The tomato paste becomes a dense paste. Take the chilli and crush it on the paste by your hand your hand. Mix it well. Your sauce it ready. It is now ready to be served with samosas or junk food. It can also be had with lunch/dinner.

2nd Type of Solo Salad. – Cucumber-Chilli Salad.

Requirements:-
1) 1 Cucumber cut into small scraps.
2) 1 Chilli
3) ¼ tablespoon of salt
4) ½ piece of a Lemon

How to Prepare:-

Take the cucumber. Cut it into fine scraps (the more small pieces the better). Take it into a porcelain bowl. Add ¼ tablespoon salt to it. Add the lemon juice to it. Crush a chilli over it. Mix it thoroughly with you hand. Your salad it ready. It can be had with a boring lunch/dinner.

3rd Type of Solo Salad. – Hot-Onion-Chilli Salad

Requirements:-
1) 1 Onion cut into small pieces.
2) 1 Chilli
3) ¼ tablespoon of salt
4) ½ piece of a Lemon

How to Prepare:-

This preparation is the strongest among all the three. Take the small pieces of onion. Treat it with lemon and crushed chilli and salt like the above two. Mix them well with your hand inside a porcelain bowl. It is then ready to be served with lunch/dinner or meals.

- - -

By now you might have understood why I have called them solo-salads. Yes they are used one at a time. That is why. Don’t mix up the three dishes together. They would taste bitter. You can prepare any one of them or if you prepare two or three of the above, then do so in separate bowls.

Try them out at your home and tell me. They taste great. Once you get addicted to these three, I’m confident that you will not be able to have your meals without them. They are so tasty.

Do try them out and let me know your comments.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1147635732799583162006-05-14T12:35:00.000-07:002006-05-19T13:31:23.926-07:00HOT WEATHER – HOT TALKThis the month of May and in Kolkata, it is the hottest month of the year, when the temperatures rise to about 52 degree celsius. I see people sweating all through out the day. Those who can afford air conditioners, it is okay for them but those who don’t have it or cannot afford one are the victims.

Before 1997, there used to be power cuts (popularly known as load shedding in this part of the world) every day for a definite period of time. Now it has almost become nil. This proves that our country is progressing in terms of basic amenities for the city dwellers. But nothing could be done to cope with the hot, humid weather.

I have noticed some queer thing in this Hot, Humid Weather.

Yes, people in this hot weather are getting angry. So much angry that it is reaching great heights and people are taking some unnecessary big decisions. Just in the similar manner, my LIFE had a fight with me two days ago and decided to leave me forever. After that she did not receive my calls or talk to me. I have planned to stay away from her till the next season arrives. Normally girls get much angrier because they take complete bath once a week, which is responsible for keeping their head burning. So boys, stay away from them till monsoon.

Our neighbours are our relatives and they have a son and a daughter around 10 years old, who fight among each other almost through out the day making queer loud noises. Every time someone from our house hears those noises, they raise their eyebrows and try to imagine from where could such strange noises come out and their reason without much success.

It was noticed that in this hot season, the fights between this particular brother and sister have risen considerably.

Even the mother of these two children had a quarrel with her mother in law on the day when it recorded the highest temperatures in this season.

The hot-talk fever grasped my home too. My dad was really angry on me one day and started scolding me for some unknown reasons. I was in a pathetic situation. Neither could I leave my important work and go outside our home, nor could I concentrate on my work.

My maternal grand mother (MUM), also had a hot talk with my mother over some issues like domestic help and so on…….of which I had no interest.

My sister also was so angry at her exam preparations that she almost planned to stop laughing for the next two months till her exam results come out.

These are many such incidents, which took place around me in the last few days, which made me think over this issue seriously. I thought and thought over it for hours and at last came to a conclusion, why people are getting so much angry and involving themselves into hot-talks and quarrels.

Yes it is the HOT, SUNNY weather that is nagging us all to raise our blood pressures and do things, which are not meant to be done.

Only one remedy can be prescribed for such a disease. Take lots of bath in a single day in cold water or get yourself dipped in the nearest swimming pool till you are contented that your anger has reduced.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23349585.post-1146894050544761102006-05-05T22:27:00.000-07:002006-05-05T22:40:50.556-07:00An InvitationVikram J Tanna, my school friend being the owner of Mansi Publishing House invites all youngsters from Kolkata as well as from places outside Kolkata to visit this gala event at the place mentioned below.

Hope you will be present at the event if you are reading this blog.

Mansi Publishing House and Landmark, Kolkata presents

a theatre double bill of “Re-Contextualising Classics”

with

Best of Kolkata Campus Production

of

ABOUT AESCHYLUS: ABOUT OEDIPUS - texts by Badal Sircar & Joy Goswami

and

FAIL AGAIN FAIL BETTER - A text - visual encounter

on

Beckett Direction

and

design : Parnab Mukherjee

at

6.00 pm on Tuesday, 09 May, 2006

at

Emami Landmark Store Pvt. Believe it or not.

I have read somewhere that there was a superstition in India that if somebody dreamt of a toad, then he was sure to become the next king of his country after defeating the current king. Seeing a kangaroo in your dreams foretells unexpected and exciting trips. People often see themselves falling from a great height in their dreams.

One needs to be a Para-Psychology Specialist to figure out the meanings of these dreams.

Can any one of you tell me, what happens if one dreams of an aeroplane / helicopter?

Some of you may say that dreaming of aeroplane/helicopter means one wants to be free and will be traveling to far of places, soon.

But dear, my dream is a bit different.

Let me explain. I had dreamt two uncommon dreams recently. Both of the dreams were in the dawn and people say that dreams of dawns turn out to be true. I’m really scared if they are true.

The first dream I dreamt was on around 5.00am in the morning on 21st of April, 2006.

Dream 1: - The Burning Aeroplane.

On a very special day (some occasion day), my daddy and I were waiting on the balcony of our 2nd floor room for some guests to arrive at our home. This balcony faces the western sky and I saw a plane approaching from north to south in the western sky.

As the plane was just in front of us in the western sky, I showed my daddy that how spectacular sight it was to see a plane from so close a distance. Both of us were staring at the plane and enjoying its beauty.

Suddenly there was a loud sound “BOOOOOM” and a flash of light. The sound seemed like an explosion and soon the whole plane was burning. Just after the sound the plane fell down on the river Ganges just in from of us in a projectile motion.

I was really very afraid to see such a horrifying sight. My heart cried for the innocent passengers inside the plane.

Within 5 minutes news channels like India TV, Aaj Tak, Doordarshan News, CNBC, BBC, NDTV, Sahara Samay, CNN, Headlines Today started telecasting the news. Bengali news channels like Star Ananda and Kolkata TV also showed how the plane exploded and fell into the Ganges.

I even saw people running here and there, in panic and the city streets were filled with RAF. Thus there was tension and fear all over peoples mind.

Dream 2: - The Crashing Helicopter.

The 2nd dream I dreamt was on around 4.00am in the morning on 28th of April, 2006.

It was dawn and all of us were sleeping in our beds and suddenly we heard a loud sound over our head and our building started shaking as if there was an earthquake.

Someone shouted that something had happened on the terrace of our neighbour’s house. I ran at our terrace and saw that on the terrace of our neighbour’s house, a helicopter has crashed and it was in flames. It has made a big hole on the terrace and entered the house.
So only the tail could be seen.

Seeing this sight I ran towards our third floor and saw that due to the effect of crash, our wall adjacent to our neighbour’s house, showed huge crack marks. The vibration was so intense that it shook all the buildings and made a hole on our third floor ceiling too.

I was struck with horror. Again I saw people running here and there with stretchers and understood that our neighbours have been injured. Every one was panicked. Police vehicles, ambulances were waiting with their hooters on and revolving searchlights.

-----------------------

I don’t understand what these two dreams actually meant. I myself don’t believe in superstitions and so did not give much attention to these dreams.

But I’m sure that my blogger friends would like to read about these dreams, so I thought of posting them here. Hope you can figure out the meanings of my dreams.

If any of you have similar dreams then let me know. I would love to read them.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
