Concertization of Tram Tracks

One of the few developments that took place in Kolkata since Independence are the concretization of the tram tracks. It started in the year 2004 and is still going on phase wise. I am a strong supporter of concretization of the tram tracks.

Nirmal Chandra Street in Bowbazar, where the famous bazaar of Bowbazar and the sweet shop Bhimnag is situated, since Independence was the most neglected area. Not a single municipality board took initiative to maintain the road.

But in the month of August 2006, one fine day, the HRBC people suddenly started pulling out the tram tracks from Bowbazar more (junction) till the end of Hind Cinema and within seven days the concretization of tram tracks over there were completed.

Now this street looks no less than any fine street of Chicago or any other western city that has tram tracks in it. Now cars are plying through the street with zip zap and zoom motion.

At last the people of Bowbazar (Central Kolkata) are happy that the municipality has done something constructive for them. Now I am looking forward to the concretization of the tram tracks after the Pujas 2006, in Amherst Street and Bepin Behari Ganguly Street. (Bowbazar Street) where all the jewellery shops of Kolkata are situated.
